Talk show series Steve, helmed by the storied comedian, will lose its time slot this year, Deadlinereports.
The NBC time spot is set to be replaced by American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson’s own show. The fate of Steve’s show, which is produced by IMG but disturbed by NBC, is up in the air. The show, which was recently renamed Steve and moved from Chicago to LA, reportedly carries a pricey budget.
Kelly’s show will now serve as a lead in to Ellen.
The announcement comes just two months after Clarkson’s team filmed the pilot for The Kelly Clarkson Show. The pilot was sold to 11 US NBC markets.
Clarkson said of the opportunity, “I love connecting with people, playing games, music and finding ways to help or give back to communities/organizations. Having my own talk show where I get to do all of these things is pretty much a dream job!”
Valari Staab, president of NBCUniversal Owned TV Station said of the change-up, “We are very excited to have Kelly Clarkson on our air next fall. She’s genuine, warm, fun and interacts with her fans in a meaningful way. Throughout her career people of all ages and backgrounds have related to her openness, honesty and curiosity. She will be the perfect companion to Ellen, providing an afternoon of great television.”
The switch up may come as a surprise since, according to Deadline, this year’s season of Steve opened with an increase in viewership year-over-year.
The site explains both Ellen and Steve “opened their new seasons with year-to-year gains for their season premieres earlier this month; Steve was up 27% to an individual day rating of 1.4 with its second season opener on Sept. 4.”
