We are heading back to Wakanda.  Director Ryan Coogler has signed on to do a sequel to Black Panther, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Chadwick Boseman will return as King T’Challa with the rest of the Wakanda soldiers. The superhero flick could begin shooting in late 2019 or early 2020, it all depends on when the script is ready.

It makes sense for Coogler and Marvel to return with a part deux.  Black Panther grossed over $1 billion globally and $700 million domestically.  It also became Marvel’s highest grossing movie ever in the U.S box office. It was also the first film to stay in the no.1 slot at the box office five weekends in a row since Avatar.

The female warriors of the Dora Milaje, which includes characters Okoye, Aneka and Ayo, even had their own spinoff, the Wakanda Forever series with Wakanda Forever: The Amazing Spiderman as the first installment.

Eventhough Coogler is the director of the film, he is not authorized to spill the beans about the sequel just yet, USA Today reports.

Of course, there has been no word on what the storyline in the sequel will be, but if you stayed after the ending credits to see the bonus scene, you have an idea of what’s to come. In that very last scene, King T’Challa was at the United Nations in Vienna and announced that Wakanda will be sharing their technology with the rest of the world.
