Last week, we reported on the accusations of sexual abuse and script-stealing against producer and director Salim Akil.
Actress Amber Dixon Brenner made several inflammatory claims against Akil. At the time we reported the initial story, Akil had yet to say anything. But this week, Akil decided to speak out via his attorney.
Akil’s attorney Stephen D. Barnes released a statement to Deadline, saying:
“These allegations are deeply upsetting – but they are also totally untrue. We will defend Salim to the fullest against the false and offensive claims that a woman with whom he had a past relationship has included in multiple unsubstantiated lawsuits. Salim looks forward to clearing his name and to being able to focus on his work and his family.”
In Dixon-Brenner’s complaint, she claimed that she and Akil were in a nearly decade-long sexual relationship during which there were times when Akil refused to stop having sex with her after she complained of pain. She claimed there was time her demanded her to perform oral sex on him. when Akil urinated in her mouth and another time when he ordered her to lick a wall in an underground parking lot.
She is also suing both of the Akils and OWN for copyright infringement. She alleges that portions of her script showed up in the OWN series “Love Is ____”
While Akil’s attorney has denied the allegations and CW and OWN have not addressed the allegations, Warner Bros TV has launched their own investigation into Akil’s conduct.
According to Deadline, a report from Warner Bros. said this:
While not saying anything publicly and taking a stance of innocent until proven guilty when it comes to the EP, the studio will be conducting an inquiry with cast and crew on the Atlanta filmed show and OWN’s Love Is, we’ve learned.
WBTV reps had no comment when contacted by Deadline, but the investigation formally started today.
