MEDINA, Ohio – A little girl is dead and another was rushed to a Medina hospital after the children were found in a hot car Thursday evening, the Medina County Corner’s Office tells Fox 8 News.

A sheriff’s deputy says that the girls were being cared for by their grandfather while their parents worked the concession stand at the fair.

At around 6:30 p.m., the grandfather called the sheriff’s department to report the girls missing. Nearly 45 minutes later, a neighbor saw her car door ajar and found the toddlers inside of the car. One of the girls was already dead, the other was still breathing.

The Medina County Sheriff’s Office and the York Township Fire Department, responded to the 4200 block of Columbia Road shortly before 7:30 p.m.

After arriving, rescuers immediately began treating the girls.

A two-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. The other girl, a 3-year-old, was taken to a Medina Hospital then transported by Life Flight to MetroHealth Medical Center, Medina County Coroner Dr. Neil Grabenstetter said.

The 3-year-old’s condition is unknown at this time.

No other information was released.

The Medina County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.
