It’s safe to drive in Cleveland.

An Allstate Insurance study says Cleveland travelers are 7.5 percent less likely to crunch and crumple their cars than motorists zipping around the rest of the nation. The town ranked 37th out of 193 metro areas analyzed in the company’s 2010 America’s Best Drivers Report released earlier this month. Only four larger cities scored better.

The bad news? It appears we’re getting worse in the driver’s seat. The 2009 study ranked Cleveland 29th.

Dayton drivers earned the highest marks in Ohio and a spot near the top of the national list. Folks behind the wheel in Columbus, however, could use a driver’s ed refresher course: Hitting the streets in the state capital makes you 12.2 percent more likely to require the services of an auto body shop.
