Bishop Arthur Brazier, pastor emeritus of Apostolic Church of God in the Woodlawn neighborhood of the South Side of Chicago has died at 89 according to Chicago Public Radio. Brazier worked with Martin Luther King and Saul Alinsky and fought against segregated schools and for affordable housing.

President Barack Obama issued a statement, saying:

Brazier was one of the country’s leading moral lights and his community work touched the lives of countless Americans
