A Smurf who launched a brutal attack on a Rastafarian in a nightclub was last night being hunted by cops

The blue and white Halloween reveller left his victim needing stitches after battering him in the club after a party.

Cops were called when trouble broke out following the fancy dress night at the Word Up club in Greenock, Renfrewshire, which had been offering drinks for £1.

The 21-year-old victim, who was dressed as a Rasta, was taken to hospital in his costume where he had stitches put in his face wounds.

 Police are now appearing for witnesses to track down the reveller dressed as a Smurf.

Last night Detective Inspector John Dearie, of Strathclyde Police, said: “This is the first time in 30 years in the police force that I have been looking for a Smurf.

“We are treating this very seriously. Whether people are dressed up as a cartoon character is neither here nor there.

“We will be making inquiries at fancy dress shops but it would be better if the person responsible was to hand themselves in.
