CLEVELAND – The rain poured.  The temperature dropped.  But it didn’t deter protestors outside the Radio One studios Tuesday who want to see popular radio host Basheer Jones put back on the air.

The protestors said they haven’t heard Jones’ show in a week, and it’s left a void in the community. “It’s a necessity that we have community radio,” protest organizer Donna Brown said. “This is the only way Black community activists and grassroots organizations can get their message out to live radio.”

Brown said if there’s a reason Jones can’t be reinstated, she wants to see the show hosted by someone else, perhaps a community activist who would do it voluntarily.

Three Cleveland police cruisers drove up shortly after the protest began.  Officers told the protestors to stay on the sidewalk and away from the parking lot and driveway.

Radio One General Manager Jeff Wilson told Newsnet5 that he highly respects Basheer Jones and wishes him well.  But he couldn’t discuss business decisions involving personnel.

Jones’ wife, Mecca East, said her husband was let go because of the budget
