CLEVELAND — Police are investigating the shooting death of two people, including a woman who was seven-months pregnant. Tyra Jones, 29, and Steve Matthews, 34, were found dead on Bryce Avenue on Friday night.

“We were just planning a baby shower and now we gotta plan a funeral,” said Clinique Jones, Tyra’s cousin. “I think maybe I’m taking this so hard because I depended on her the most and just talked to her everyday.”

Police say Jones was found dead in the middle of the street around 10:30 on Friday. The body of her fiancé was just a few feet away on the dead end street. Tyra’s family said the two had been a couple for a few years and they were excited about raising their first child in her Maple Heights home.

“We just want people to know, they have really hurt this family,” said Tyra’s aunt, Tina Carter. “I don’t understand how they could do this to her – or him.”

Cleveland Police have not made any arrests and they’re also investigating why the couple was on Bryce Avenue. “I just don’t understand how they could have done it,” said Inez Watson who lives on the street. “I don’t know a person could actually walk up to somebody and kill someone like that.”

Jones was a college graduate who worked as a financial analyst and her family said Matthews was a hard worker who was ready to be a father. “It’s very sad and they know what they done and they will have to answer and they will answer to somebody, even if it’s the man upstairs,” said Tyra’s aunt.

Police have not made an arrest. A spokesperson for the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor said if the fatal shootings were committed by the same individual, it would be considered mass murder which is a capital offense.
