A 10-hour standoff ended peacefully this morning after several SWAT teams from the eastern Cuyahoga County suburbs had surrounded a four-story office building.
A police dispatcher with Beachwood police said the standoff ended at about 4 a.m. without incident. She said she could offer no more details as of 5 a.m.
Late Saturday, hostage negotiators spent the evening trying to bring the peaceful ending to the standoff, Mayor Merle Gorden said.
“Everything is under control,” said Gorden, who was on site with police. “We’re here for the long haul, no matter what it takes.” He said police were in contact with the person, who was believed to have taken at least one hostage.
The standoff reportedly started at about 6 p.m. on the first floor of the building, possibly at Alfredo’s International Salon, Gorden said. The salon, according to several Web sites, closes at 6 p.m.
It’s unclear how many people were involved, the mayor said.
