Russo took the stand on Tuesday, and said he would call McCafferty 2-4 times a year, and ask her to watch out for certain cases involving friends, employees and others close to him.

He added he expected McCafferty to help because they are friends.

McCafferty admitted she spoke to former DAS CEO Steve Pumper and Russo about cases in her courtroom, but denied fixing any cases.

In the phone call, Pumper told McCafferty, “You did a good job for me” after he appeared in front of McCafferty on behalf of DAS Construction. The prosecution told the jury the call to help Pumper came from former Commissioner Jimmy Dimora.

During cross-examination, McCafferty’s defense team tried to discredit the former Auditor by calling some of Russo’s co-workers. They claim they didn’t campaign for McCafferty like Russo testified.
