AVON, Ohio — A warehouse that was planned to become a tourist attraction was destroyed early this morning in a fire that caused $500,000 in damage.

Avon Fire Department officials said the fire was reported at 1:38 a.m. at the Bracken Danielson warehouse at 1200 Center Road.

The building was planned to be transformed into the West Side Children’s Museum, financed by Bracken Danielson, the president of Danco Metal Products in Avon Lake.

According to press release about the museum, it would have been a learning center for children to learn about traffic in a child-sized city called “Our Town.”

Plans were for the museum to open in early 2010.

When firefighters arrived, smoke and flames were coming from the building. Firefighters were on the scene until 7 a.m.

Fire officials said they saw no museum materials in the building.
