She may seem like another right wing lunatic, but several right wing lunatics have proved very dangerous. While her antics and gaffes may be amusing, the fact that thousands of people believe and follow her is not. That said, here are the top 10 Reasons To Be Afraid Of Michele Bachmann.

10. She is a modern day McCarthyite

Bachmann wanted to expose anti-American members of congress during the 2008 Presidential Election, not unlike Senator Joseph McCarthy’s infamous campaign to expose communists in politics and entertainment in the 50s. She told Chris Matthews:

“What I would say is that the news media should do a penetrating expose and take a look…I wish they would…I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out are they pro-America, or anti-America. I think people would love to see an expose like that.”

9. She is a New World Order-fearing conspiracy theorist.

Bachmann also subscribes to the same New World Order conspiracy theories that inspired right wing terrorists like Timothy McVeigh and Jared Loughner. Like Loughner and McVeigh, Bachmann is spreading the “one world currency” fear, according to AOL’s Politics Daily. She also is a big fan of Ludwig Von Mises, an economist who is very popular in the white supremacist/militia/New World Order crowd.

8. She is a violence-promoting gun nut

The one thing more scary than a crazy person is a crazy person with guns. The one thing scarier than a crazy person with guns is a crazy gun person with gun-toting followers. Michele Bachmann is both. She asked for her followers to be “armed and dangerous” on the issue of energy tax and said that having a revolution every now and again is a good thing. She would clarify later that she mean “armed with knowledge.” I wish someone would smack Michele Bachmann in the face… with some knowledge.

7. She wants people to slit their wrists… and then have no health care to stitch them up.

Bachmann was one of the GOP’s most vocal opponents of health care, helping start the “death panel” conspiracy theory. When faced with the prospect of Americans being able to stay healthy without paying an arm and leg for health care, Bachmann said:

This cannot pass. What we have to do today is make a covenant, to slit our wrists, be blood brothers on this thing. This will not pass. We will do whatever it takes to make sure this doesn’t pass.

6. She thinks she’s a serial killer.

Okay, maybe not a serial killer. She thinks she’s the cowboy movie star, John Wayne. But she recently confused him with an infamous serial killer. I would figure it was a gaffe but there is something a little serial-killer crazy about her gaze.

5. She oversees the CIA and NSA

I find it ridiculous that this anti-Obama, anti-government, religious nutcase is even a congresswoman, but to have her on the committee to oversee National Intelligence, overseeing both the CIA and the NSA, two of the most powerful government agencies, and has access to top secret foreign policy and CIA initiatives. Very, very scary.

4. She is trying to get Barack Obama killed

Bachmann continues to call Obama ” a “gangster,” “anti-American,” “socialist” and a “tyrant” while referring to Thomas Jefferson quote, “the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants.” She quotes the Virginia State motto, “Death to tyrants,” which is what John Wilkes Booth yelled before shooting Lincoln. Given the mental instability of certain Tea Party followers, people should be concerned that her rhetoric may lead to another Jared Loughner incident.

3. She is clueless about American history

Like her fellow Republican right wing lunatic, Sarah Palin, Bachmann is clueless about American history despite her enthusiasm for the Founding Fathers and America. Bachmann told a crowd in New Hampshire that the first battles of the Revolutionary War were fought there, despite the fact that they were fought in Massachusetts. She also said that the Founding Fathers fought “tirelessly against slavery,” when in fact, many of the Founding Fathers owned slaves and fought to include slavery in the Constitution.

2. She is a religious fanatic

Bachmann began her career in politics as an anti-abortion activist and is extremely opposed to gay marriage. She does not believe in evolution or global warming and believes that God is speaking through her and guides her. She was educated at the Christian extremist school, Oral Roberts University, where she got her law degree.

1. She looks crazy

If the eyes are the windows to the soul, Bachmann must be crazy to the bone. Her look is part Stepford wife and part robot. Perhaps she is a Terminator from the future GOP sent to defeat Obama, or is possessed by an evil Republican spirit. Bachmann’s blank yet intense gaze makes you think that she might be right about being guided by a supernatural spirit, thought that spirit definitely isn’t God.
