Oh snap! Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-CO) apologized after he let a few disrespectful words come out of his mouth about President Obama!

Rep. Lamborn was being interviewed last Friday on KHOW’s Caplis and Silverman radio show about the administration’s budget policies.

“The President is the ultimate person in the minds of the people for who has responsibility. And when he faces the voters next November, even if some people say, well, the Republicans should have done this or they should have done that, they will hold the President responsible. Now, I don’t want to even have to be associated with him [the President]. It is like touching a tar baby and you get it – you’re stuck – and you’re part of the problem now.”

Historically, the term “tar baby” references a doll made of tar and turpentine to entrap a character in the Uncle Remus stories. It is now widely considered to have negative connotations about African-Americans.

Earlier, Rep. Lamborn’s Communications Director released the following statement:

“Congressman Lamborn regrets any misunderstanding. He simply meant to refer to a sticky situation or quagmire.”

The term “tar baby” is a reference to 19th-century Uncle Remus stories about Br’er Rabbit but has taken on a negative connotation towards African-Americans. Lamborn has since apologized but critics are saying something needs to be done!

So far, no word from the White House concerning Lamborn’s remarks.

So what do you think should happen? Should he resign or is apology enough? Will you be calling the congressman’s phone number asking him to resign? Here is Doug Lamborn’s office number 202.225.4422. You can call it and ask for his resignation yourself. Let us know if you called and what you said.
