She would have turned 12 years old on Friday, but a little girl died Wednesday evening, hours after she was shot in the back by a bullet intended for someone else.

Thursday, Akron Police visited several specific locations checking on possible leads. The Northern Ohio Fugitive Task Force is now offering $5,000 to anyone who turns the thugs in.

“She said mommy mommy and turned around and there was a big bump on her back,” said the victim’s sister, Natasha Taylor.

Carmella Holley was watching television in a second floor apartment of the Hillwood Homes in the 1100 block of Key Place when gunfire erupted outside in the parking lot.

Akron Police say the 11-year old was hit by a stray bullet when at least five bullets hit the apartment building around 4:20PM.

“Next thing you know, everybody was running and Carmella was saying, “my back, my back,” said the victim’s sister, Natasha Taylor. “We was just sitting there watching TV and eating candy, and somebody shot her.”

Carmella was rushed to Akron Children’s Hospital by EMS in serious and then critical condition. She later died.

The suspects are on the loose.
