CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

A police-involved shooting on Cleveland’s west side Wednesday night.

It happened around 9:15PM on West 37th between Mapledale and Archwood.

Police say 39-year-old Donnie Rodgers shot his girlfriend, Shirley Price, in the neck. The officers forced to open fire to defuse the domestic situation.

“During the call, the caller said the suspect was going to ‘shoot it out with police’ when they arrived,” said Sgt. Sammy Morris of the Cleveland Police Department.

After the domestic shooting, Rodgers started walking down the street with his weapon and shot two times into the air. He then pointed his gun at police.

“They ordered the suspect to drop his weapon, which he didn’t comply. They told him to drop it several times. And at one point, the suspect put the gun to his head,” Sgt. Morris said.

That is when police opened fire and shot Rodgers.

Both Price and Rodgers are being treated at Metro. Price is listed in serious condition and Rodgers is listed in critical condition.
