CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s Interscholastic Athletics Office is announcing, the James F. Rhodes football team will forfeit their game against Glenville this weekend. The game was scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 17, 2011 at John Marshall Field.

The forfeit comes on the heals of a one game suspension after Rhodes varsity football players were involved in unsportsmanlike conduct at the Cleveland Central Catholic game on September 10, 2011.

The decision to forfeit the game came after Shelia Rollins, Principal for James F. Rhodes, determined that they would not have enough varsity and junior varsity players to field a team. “It is an unfortunate situation, but the district stands by the decision made by the school’s administration,” said Commissioner Leonard B. Jackson. “We emphasize and continue to foster the importance of sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity of our student athletes, coaches and spectators of each of our member schools.”
