*Aretha Franklin has honored her late father by traveling to Georgia to accept a prestigious award on his behalf.
The Queen of Soul went to Atlanta Tuesday for the 20th Annual Trumpet Awards Race Relations Symposium, where her dad, Rev. C.L. Franklin, was recognized for his civil rights work. She’ll pick up his posthumous accolade at the event’s annual awards ceremony on Saturday.
Clarence LaVaughn Franklin was a Baptist minister who worked tirelessly to end discrimination against black United Auto Workers members in Detroit.
He died in 1984 after spending five years in a coma as a result of a gunshot wound he suffered during an attempted robbery on his home.
In total, 26 persons were selected for their milestone achievements by bosses of The Trumpet Awards Foundation, among them model Tyrese Gibson and hitmakers Earth, Wind, & Fire.
