One man might officially be out of the running for Grandpa of the Year.
In northwestern Germany, a 72-year-old man was allegedly so distracted by the beauty of a local lake that he forgot his granddaughter was in the trunk of his car yesterday.
The 9-year-old girl asked to ride in the trunk, a request the grandfather accepted for the trip to Sorpe Lake in the Sauerland area of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s The Local reported. But when they arrived, he was so enchanted by the scenery that he got out and went for a walk, he told local police.
Other tourists heard the girl’s calls for help as she pounded on the inside of the trunk and they summoned firefighters who were able to free her from the car, according to UPI.
The local police spokesman told the wire service that the grandpa was “visibly affected” by the incident upon his return and given a warning by German police. He also promised to never let anyone ride in his trunk again, UPI reported.
