After almost four years of construction, the new Fulton Road bridge that spans Brookside Park and the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will open to traffic Friday around noon.
The old bridge was closed in October 2006 after it was determined that replacing the structure was more cost-effective than rehabilitating the earlier span.
The public is invited to join laborers, construction personnel and project officials at 10 a.m. Friday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The new span will feature 5-foot-wide bicycle lanes on both sides as well as broad sidewalks and scenic overlooks.
Minor work beneath the structure, including sealing and construction of a shared-use trail, will continue throughout the summer.
