AKRON, OH (WOIO) –

A 57-year-old Akron man is dead after an ambulance collided with an SUV near Akron General Medical Center early Thursday morning.

The accident happened at the intersection of Wabash Avenue and West Cedar Street around 3:30AM.

The traffic lights were not working due to a power outage in the area. First Energy reported a power outage for more than 400 customers in the area.

The victim – identified as Collins D. Green – was a backseat passenger in the SUV. The other three people inside the SUV were not injured. No one inside the ambulance was hurt.

The ambulance was on a non-emergency run and did not have the lights or siren on.

Accident investigators tell 19 Action News they have a lot of work to do before they can determine what exactly happened.
