CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH (WOIO) –

Former County Auditor Frank Russo was in court Thursday as federal prosecutors say his cooperation in the county corruption is “substantially complete.”

Some had asked over the months how Russo remained free so long while others were sent to prison quickly.

A judge ordered Russo to self report to a Pennsylvania prison in December to begin serving his sentence.

“I’ve regret what I’ve done, I’m very, truly sorry for what I’ve done with my heart, but if you look back, there’s nothing I can do about it,” Russ said. “What I can do is make a difference in the future.”

He is expected to face a reduced sentence due to his cooperation, particularly his testimony against former County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora.

As of now, Russo will start to serve his original 21 years and 8 months prison sentence. However, the judge will consider reducing his sentence after he testifies in the 2013 corruption trial of Anthony O. Calabrese III.

Russo being sent to prison raises another question. When will J. Kevin Kelley, who is living on a disability pension in Florida, pay for his crimes?
