CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -The Cleveland Heights school district has stated that the Cleveland Heights High football team will be in the playoffs.

Today in court, the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School district prevailed on a motion for a temporary restraining order against the Ohio High School Athletic Association, OHSAA that vaults the Tiger football team into the 8th and final OHSAA computer rankings in our region.

Four teams are affected by this decision. Cleveland Heights and Beachwood are now in the

playoffs, and Mayfield and Ashtabula Edgewood no longer qualify.

Cleveland Heights finished its regular season 8-2. In the OHSAA’s computer rankings, the Tigers finished ninth, out of the Division I, region 1 playoffs. The top eight teams make the playoffs.

“We felt we deserved the spot because Cleveland JFK forfeited a game that it won over John Adams, which Cleveland Heights defeated,” stated CH-UH Superintendent Doug Heuer.

“The OHSAA didn’t recognize the forfeit and would not adjust the final computer ratings, that’s why we had to challenge the decision in court.”

After the court made the decision, Cleveland Heights High football coach Jeff Rotsky said “I nearly cried with joy.

We’ve been practicing all week with a strong belief in the legal system.”

“Our boys legitimately qualified for the spot in the playoffs and we appreciate that our legal system made this right.

It’s unfortunate for Mayfield and Ashtabula Edgewood that this adjustment wasn’t made as soon as Cleveland JFK forfeited its game against John Adams.”

Cleveland Heights Tigers will now take on St. Ed’s at Lakewood Stadium at 7 p.m. this Saturday, November 3.
