CLEVELAND – Early Tuesday morning, a letter was posted on the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s website describing a Pittsburgh Steelers fan’s less-than-welcoming experience in Cleveland leading up to Sunday’s Browns-Steelers game.

Cindy Witner, of McKees Rocks, Pa., explains in the letter that leading up to her trip, numerous people described Browns fans as mean and warned her she would not enjoy her trip to Cleveland for the game.

Witner followed through with her plans and she, along with her family, caravanned with 100 other Steelers fans to Cleveland this past weekend to watch the longtime rivals battle it out at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

She had no issues checking into her hotel downtown – several of the staff members were also Steelers fans. However, leaving the hotel was a different story.

“We could not walk down the street without a man, woman or child giving us “the finger” or shouting obscenities in our faces,” Witner wrote.

A bartender at a local eatery asked her not to “judge our city by our football fans.”

Her family had a rougher experience at the game on Sunday.

“At the game, we were pushed, shoved, told to ‘never come back to our city’ and called names that I shall not repeat,” she wrote. “While we all enjoy friendly competition, your city takes it too far. We may make a joke or two, “cause we have six,” but then we offer you one!”
