CLEVELAND – The Historic Warehouse District Development Corporation and the city of Cleveland announced the groundbreaking start for an improvement project in the Warehouse District Thursday morning.

Mayor Frank Jackson and Councilman Joe Cimperman launched this groundbreaking ceremony along with representatives of the board of the Historic Warehouse District and area residents.

The federally funded project is a major step in the Warehouse District’s million-dollar plan that focuses on landscaping, public art and pedestrian improvements.

Part of the enhancement project includes the immediate start of construction on West 6th Street to widen the sidewalks (allowing restaurants to extend their outdoor seating), move the public right of way to the inside of the trees and take the tree grates out for planting flower beds.

Benches, artwork depicting the history of the warehouse district and bike racks are also being added.

A project of this proportion normally takes around seven months to complete. However, the city of Cleveland is making the project a priority and hope to have it finished earlier than expected, in approximately four months.

Parking will be limited during that time period.
