CLEVELAND – The fast-paced and action packed movie “Captain America” will return soon to a theater near you; but before that happens pre-production must take place. That may cause some headaches for folks who live and work along the Shoreway.

Thousands of motorists who normally use the route to get to and from work and other locations will have to suffer through two weeks of road closure along the Shoreway for filming of the movie. Film officials said it’s the safest stretch that resembles Washington DC’s Shoreway.

For businesses in the area, there’s excitement over the movie as well as angst.

“There is some trepidation in that we are four minutes down the Shoreway for lunch and that traffic is going to stop,” said General Manager of Don’s Lighthouse Grill Kraig Sternquist. He said they’re already preparing for the Shoreway to close for two weeks in May and June for filming.

“If everybody remembers on East 9th there was a lot of debris and cars and when they did that explosion everything was there to move that out of the way and bring it back everyday would be so cost prohibitive,” he said.

Otherwise the high impact action sequences would take months to film.

“Everything gets to stay where it lands and  then they just come back each day and pound it out,” said Ivan Schwarz of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission,

As an industry, Marvel Studios has made about $75-$80 million for movies shot in Cleveland.
