CLEVELAND – One of the people who helped rescue the three missing women who were held captive at a Cleveland house for years returns to work at a downtown restaurant Monday, and a special dish has been named in his honor.
Hodge’s Cleveland, located on Euclid Avenue near the intersection of East 6th Street, posted on Twitter Sunday that it’s launching a new hamburger for employee Charles Ramsey.
“Tomorrow: We launch the # RamseyBurger ! 8 oz. CAB burger with secret sauce and more for $12 (served with tots)!” said the restaurant ( @HodgesCleveland ) on Twitter.
Ramsey, 43, works as a dishwasher at the restaurant and was off work last Monday when he saw a woman signaling for help from inside his neighbor’s home on Seymour Avenue. He and another neighbor, Angel Cordero, helped free Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight.
Police said the homeowner, 52-year-old Ariel Castro, kidnapped the women, raped them and held them captive in his house. He has been arrested and charged in connection with the case.
Ramsey told the Washington Post over the weekend he was actually suspended from work last week after rounds of ammo from an AK-47 fell out of his pocket when he leaned over. He said he didn’t have a weapon and the rounds were souvenirs from a friend who was serving overseas in the military, but his boss sent him home on suspension.
Ramsey told the Washington Post Monday is his first day back on the job at Hodge’s. It follows a series of media interviews that landed him in the public spotlight. He told the newspaper he needs to get back to work to live up to his obligation after the suspension.
With a menu item in his name and general excitement for his efforts in rescuing the women, Ramsey’s likely going to get the most celebratory return from suspension anyone has ever had.
