CLEVELAND – An earthquake originating in Canada Friday morning sent tremors down to northeast Ohio.
The quake just northwest of Ottawa was originally reported as a 5.0 magnitude at 9:43 a.m. After further investigation, it was downgraded to a 4.4 magnitude, Michael Hansen, a Senior Geologist at ODNR with OhioSeis, said.
He said there was a 3.6 aftershock quake at 9:52 a.m. It took a little time for the tremors to be felt in northeast Ohio, since seismic waves travel 6 kilometers a second, according to Ohio Earthquake Information Center.
The tremors were felt throughout northern Ohio and viewers shared their stories with NewsChannel5.
“At my desk and it did a rocking/wave motion 10 minutes ago,” Angela Head wrote in an email sent at 9:57 a.m.
Another viewer in Cathedral Square said they just felt the entire building shaking around 9:49 a.m.
One viewer at work in Middleburg Heights reported that she felt her chair shaking.
