CLEVELAND – Police say a missing 8-year-old Cleveland boy has been found safe after an Amber Alert was issued Monday morning.

The missing child, Kevin Criss Jr., along with the suspect, the boy’s non-custodial father Kevin Criss, and his vehicle were located on Cleveland Road in Huron by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office and Huron police.

A text alert helped find the boy and suspect, according to Erie County Sheriff Chief Jared Oliver.

Oliver said a man received the Amber Alert and he spotted the vehicle in the description, a 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette, when he and three others were out to breakfast. The man then jumped in his car, called police and followed the suspect’s vehicle until officers and sheriff’s deputies caught up.

Criss was placed under arrest and transported to Erie County Jail.

Criss Jr, 8, was transported to Erie County’s Department of Job and Family Services. The child’s mother and an FBI agent are en route to Erie County to meet up with him.

An Amber Alert was issued after police said Criss Jr. was taken by his non-custodial father, Criss, and that they may have been headed to California.

Police said he had last been seen Sunday in the 3700 block of West Boulevard in Cleveland.

Criss is a suspected drug addict and mentally unstable, according to authorities.

A police report said Criss took the boy from a family member saying he was taking him swimming at a hotel and also made statements to family members about going to California.
