CLEVELAND – The man accused of holding three Cleveland women captive for a decade will plead not guilty to nearly 1,000 charges in court Wednesday, said defense attorney Jaye Schlachet.

Last week, the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office filed a 977-count superceding indictment against Ariel Castro.

Castro was charged with two counts of aggravated murder, 512 counts of kidnapping and 446 counts of rape against Michelle Knight, Gina DeJesus, Amanda Berry and her daughter.

Castro will be arraigned July 17 on the new indictment.

The case will remain assigned to Common Pleas Court Judge Michael Russo. The trial is set to begin on Aug. 5.
