Two hundred and fifteen city of East Cleveland employees are worried about getting a paycheck Aug. 30.
The city’s gotten lots of coverage for money problems and financial emergencies. And now it’s become a standoff between Mayor Gary Norton and City Council.
And it’s more of a political issue because Norton’s main opponent in the November election is Council President Dr. Joy Jordan.
The city is in a financial emergency, and a state auditor’s watchdog panel is overseeing its finances.
Council blames the mayor for overspending in some departments. The mayor blames council for under-appropriating needed money that he says is there.
