CLEVELAND – Two officers are on paid administrative leave during the investigation into Ariel Castro’s suicide.

Castro held Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight captive in his Seymour Avenue house in Cleveland for more than a decade. On Aug. 1, he pleaded guilty to 937 counts, including kidnapping and rape, and was sentenced to life in prison plus 1,000 years.

The 53-year-old hanged himself using his bed sheets on Sept. 3 inside his cell at the State Correctional Reception Center in Orient, Ohio.

Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections spokeswoman JoEllen Smith said two officers are leave while the Ohio State Highway Patrol conducts its investigation. The department of corrections is also doing an internal investigation.
