CLEVELAND – The Browns will start third-string quarterback Brian Hoyer Sunday in Minnesota, replacing Brandon Weeden, who is out after injuring his thumb against the Ravens.

Head coach Rob Chudzinski informed Hoyer of his decision Wednesday, the team announced.

Hoyer was signed to a two-year deal by the Browns this offseason.

With the Arizona Cardinals in 2012, Hoyer started one game. He was undrafted in 2009 but signed by the New England Patriots, serving as Tom Brady’s backup.

The 27-year-old North Olmsted native attended Saint Ignatius High School, where he played football and baseball. He then went to Michigan State.
