While cyclists await the promised bike lanes in Cleveland along Detroit Avenue, Bike Cleveland sent out a questionnaire to all candidates for Cleveland City Council seats.

In wards 4, 6, 7, 9 and 10, none of the candidates replied to the survey.

“Through the survey we learned that of the 14 Cleveland City Council candidates that replied 92.3 percent would support an increase in city capital budget funding dedicated to a safe connected network of bike facilities,” said Bike Cleveland’s Jacob VanSickle.  “We also learned that 91.7 percent are supportive of protected bike lanes, where the bike traffic is separate from the motor traffic.”

VanSickle said the information may be useful for voters and it will be used by Bike Cleveland to work with the city towards safer streets for people on bikes.

One council candidate, Terrell Pruitt of Ward 1, revealed in the survey, he is working with the Metroparks to develop a mountain bike trail in Kerruish Park on the city’s far southeast side.
