It’s a tight race this year to see who can open earliest, with the biggest sales, on Thanksgiving Day.
You can barely call it “Black Friday” anymore, because most of the biggest sales on TVs, toys, and tablets will be long over by Friday morning.
Earlier Thanksgiving Openings
Macy’s, Target, JCPenney, Sears, and Kohl’s are all opening at 8 p.m.
Walmart and Best Buy are opening 2 hours earlier at 6 p.m.
Toy’s R Us gets the Leap Pad and Elmo sales going an hour earlier, at 5 p.m.
Kmart is earliest of them all, opening Thanksgiving morning, and staying open for 41 hours straight for the first time ever.
But some stores are saying “enough,” and are refusing to open, saying Thanksgiving is a day for family time.
Stores Refusing to Open
If you are one of the shoppers angered by the early openings, and the impact they are having on holiday family time, then you may want to shop at the stores that have decided not to open their doors until Friday morning, (when Black Friday sales used to begin).
None of the stores holding off to Friday are expected to have lines around the block, but they will still have sales of some sort.
Stores closed Thanksgiving include:
-Nordstrom/ Nordstrom Rack
-Burlington Coat Factory
-BJ’s Wholesale Club
Moneywatch.com says none of these stores depend on Black Friday for a huge chunk of their business, unlike Toys-R-Us or Best Buy.
For instance, some stores like Nordstrom hold their big sales in July. Costco makes most of its profit from membership dues, not selling merchandise.
