The mother, of five-year-old Jermani Brooks, is now recovering at home on the day that would’ve been her daughter’s sixth birthday
Noni Brooks and her daughter were both shot on Sunday, January 19, when police say a gunman pumped bullets into the family’s van on Crossburn Avenue.
Little Jermani died as a result of her injuries.
Noni’s two other children, an infant and 8-year-old, were also inside the vehicle but were not harmed.
Noni was hospitalized to be treated for her injuries and released on Thursday, January 23.
In an exclusive interview with 19 Action News, Noni’s aunt, Ruby Kibler, told Scott Taylor that Noni has pins in her face and can’t see in one eye.
Kibler says her niece is coherent, “I asked her to give me a kiss. She said, ‘Ok, Auntie Ruby.’”
Family and friends held a vigil at the family’s home and also a service at St. Paul AME Zion Church in Jermani’s honor.
