ODOT

CLEVELAND – For the first time in Ohio history, ODOT is going out in the market place to find a new contract for salt supply mid-winter to get them through the remainder of what has been a messier than normal season thus far.

HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?

Each summer, ODOT, in conjunction with the local communities they serve, arrive at a total estimated number of salt (in tons) that will get them through the season.

From there, the salt companies bid on the total number that ODOT gives them and ODOT accepts the lowest bidder.

The contract is such that ODOT is required to purchase 80 percent of what they asked for, regardless of how much they use, likewise, the supplier is required to provide up to 120 percent of what was initially requested.
