CLEVELAND – Despite a state panel ruling that Cleveland’s traffic camera system is unconstitutional, the City of Cleveland announced Wednesday that the cameras will keep flashing and tickets will keep being mailed out.

After the ruling, the City of Cleveland suspended the appeals process for motorists who felt they were unfairly ticketed.

The city also announced Wednesday that the hearing room for appeals will be opened again.

Attorneys for the city are fighting the state panel’s ruling and have filed an appeal with the Ohio Supreme Court.

Attorneys for the city said the state panels ruling was just an opinion,  not a binding ruling and that the driver from Columbus who filed the lawsuit paid the ticket and never appealed the ticketing also rendering his complaint with the state non binding.

Cleveland officials said the speed and red light cameras are all about safety.
