Dale Hansen

DALLAS, Tex. – Dale Hansen is a gruff, 65-year-old straight guy who loves watching football and since 1983 has been a sportscaster for WFAA-TV, the Dallas ABC affiliate.

He’s seen a lot of controversy in sports.

As a reporter, he broke the story about players at Southern Methodist University getting paid to play. That led to the university getting the so-called “death penalty” from the NCAA.

So he has no problem telling the truth as he sees it.

In his latest “Hansen Unplugged,” he sounds off on word that some NFL executives say Michael Sam–the SEC’s reigning Defensive Player of the Year–hurt his draft stock by coming out of the closet.

Calling out the hypocrisy of those anonymous claims, Hansen says, “You beat a woman and drag her down a flight of stairs, pulling her hair out by the roots? You’re the fourth guy taken in the NFL draft. You kill people while driving drunk? That guy’s welcome. Players caught in hotel rooms with illegal drugs and prostitutes? We know they’re welcome.”
