CLEVELAND – Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson joined Clevelander Ricky Smith in declaring Monday, February 17, 2014 Random Acts of Kindness Everywhere (R.A.K.E.) Day in Cleveland.

According to the City of Cleveland, R.A.K.E. was founded by Ricky Smith, a local comedian, as he traveled across the country and used social media to promote random acts of kindness that strangers shared with him along the way.

R.A.K.E. encourages others to do something nice for someone else and the movement is gaining momentum. Smith has also founded a R.A.K.E. fund that will allow him to finance a nationwide blanket drive and create homeless kits filled with items such as toothpaste and hand warmers for the less fortunate.
