Man wanted for questioning in connection with Relisha Rudd disappearance. (Washington Post TV)

UPDATED Tuesday, April 8, 2014, 12:00 p.m. ET–

DC police report finding the man in the video they released (pictured above) and that he is cooperating with the investigation into the disappearance of Relisha Rudd. However, they may be no closer to finding her, even after talking with him. Associated Press reports:

Police said Monday they’ve interviewed the man but they have no new information about Relisha’s whereabouts. The video was released on Friday after police searched a large park in northeast Washington for Relisha without success.

Meanwhile, a couple of articles in the Washington Post paint a complicated picture of the 8-year-old girl’s circumstances and what may have led her relatives to entrust her to Kahlil Tatum, the man police believe kidnapped her. The articles describe a child who was desperate to escape the filth and hardships of shelter life and a  trend in child welfare policy toward keeping families together, even in dysfunctional situations.

D.C. police are asking for the public’s help finding the unidentified man in the picture above, according to the Washington Post on Friday. They think he might have some answers that will help them find missing 8-year-old Relisha Rudd.

Authorities would not disclose the location the video was taken, or the man’s connection to the case. Police do not know who the man is, and they are urging anyone who does to call them at 202-727-9099.

“The Metropolitan Police Department believes this individual may have information and we are only seeking to speak with him,” the agency said in a statement.

Rudd has been missing for more than a month. Her alleged abductor, Kahlil Malik Tatum, was found shot dead on Monday, March 31, in an apparent suicide. Tatum’s wife, Andrea, was found shot dead in a Maryland motel room on March 2. Rudd was last seen a day earlier in the company of Tatum, a janitor at the homeless shelter where she lived with her mother and brothers.

Rudd’s mother had allowed her to spend time with Tatum; not only did her family did not report her missing, police say, but they also helped Tatum pose as doctor with school officials who were asking why she had been absent from class. A grand jury is considering charges against her mother, Shamika Young, who says she thought Rudd was with her sister before she disappeared.
