The medals are made, clear bags for runners belongings are ready and security plans are in place for Cleveland’s big race.

“We’ve had a whole year to prepare not only by ourselves but we’ve communicated with other races around the country to find the best practices,” said Jack Staph.

Jack Staph the Executive Director of the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon says they’ve had valuable time to prepare for the 20,000 runners, thousands of volunteers and spectators they need to protect next month.

Law enforcement from several police departments along with the FBI and Homeland Security will be on hand.

“More places to watch. More canine, dogs to sniff out things. More security on the rooftops,” added Staph.

Lessons learned after the Boston bombings tragedy.

Local officials tell us it’s become the new normal tighter security. Officials also want spectators to play detective by reporting anything suspicious.
