The Cleveland Metropolitan School District could see the construction of 19 new schools in the years ahead, if the school board approves a proposed facilities plan.

Board members will review the plan at a special meeting Monday evening and they could adopt it by resolution as early as Tuesday.

The goal is to continue to modernize the school district while addressing declining enrollment.

For example, one scenario in a draft of the plan is to replace Newton D. Baker with a new school and that, over multiple years, McKinley students would be transferred to Wilbur Wright, and then McKinley would be closed and demolished.
