Andrew Wiggins is coming to Cleveland.

The Cleveland Cavaliers selected the 6-foot-8, 200-pound small forward with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.

“We had some really spirited discussions about trade options that were available to us, but most of which were not accurately reported by the media,” Cavaliers general manager David Griffin said to ESPN. “Many of the things said to have been offered never came up. We knew for quite some time in our minds who we wanted to take if we kept the pick.

“We really believe, at this point, for Andrew, his defense is a skill set. He does it with the fast-twitch muscle fiber in his body. That’s unusual. I had the opportunity to work with Shawn Marion at one point. He’s an incredibly quick player off the floor and quick laterally and guarded multiple positions. That was something that really spoke to me about Andrew, and I know it spoke to our coaching staff as well, and all of our scouts felt he had the most upside.”

Wiggins, a native of Thornhill, Ontario, Canada, and product of the University of Kansas, was an early entry into the NBA Draft, after he averaged 17.1 points, pulled down 5.9 rebounds and handed out 1.5 assists over 32.8 minutes in 35 games for the Jayhawks.
