Just when we thought that actress and FOX News commentator Stacey Dash couldn’t be any more clueless, she goes and proves us wrong.
During a recent segment, Dash took offense to West comparing rape to being followed by the paparazzi at London’s Wireless Festival:
“I want to bring my family to the movies without 30 motherf—ers following me,” West said. “Everybody here, they like sex right? Sex is great when you and your partner are like, ‘Hey, this is what we both want to do.’ But if one of those people don’t want to do that, what is that called? That’s called rape. That is called violation.”
In response, Dash suggested that West go to the notorious Rikers Island prison to experience rape for himself:
“For Kanye to say ‘rape,’ maybe he needs to spend some time on Rikers Island,” Dash said. “Go to Rikers for a little while and then he’ll know what rape is.”
So, Dash thinks the best way to battle rape culture is by promoting rape culture?
Prison rape is a serious issue, one that rarely gets the attention it deserves. It is the height of irresponsibility to suggest rape as a punishment for ignorance. West’s hyperbolic words are insensitive and minimize the psychological and physical devastating impact of rape. But to suggest that someone be sexually violated to teach them a lesson in empathy and awareness is not the answer. In fact, it perpetuates the very culture we work so hard to eradicate.
