Here in Cleveland, and across the country, vigils are being held Thursday evening to peacefully protest the death of Michael Brown and other victims of alleged police brutality.
An autopsy confirmed that Brown, of Missouri, died of gunshot wounds he suffered when he was shot by a police officer, according to police in St. Louis County.
Tonight is being called the “National Moment of Silence.” The vigils are taking place in more than 50 cities, across 30 states.
In Cleveland, nearly 200 supporters gathered at the Free Stamp in downtown Cleveland.
“At the end of the day, it’s almost gotten to the point where it is a common place where you see a police car go by and you don’t feel safer. You start to wonder, ‘is this the day you are going to get pulled over.’ I feel bad that we’ve gotten to the point where I expect this so that whole culture needs to change,” activist Jake Streeter said.
