The U.S. Coast Guard issued a stark reminder for boaters and beachgoers: Despite warm temperatures, the water is much cooler, and that could be deadly.

With fall sweeping in, many people want to enjoy the final few days that still feel like summer. But, that can be dangerously deceptive.

While the air temperature might be near 80 degrees, that could lull swimmers into a false sense of security because the water temperature could be in the 50’s.

Hypothermia can set in quickly for swimmers or unfortunate boaters who wind up in the water.

The Coast Guard 9th District, which is based in Cleveland and oversees much of the Great Lakes, has seen its share of water rescues this summer.
