The joys of winter driving are not that far away. Last winter, many drivers through Lake County faced delays and hazardous conditions because of an ongoing I-90 construction project near Vrooman Road.

Early snowfall pushed work on the project back. That meant drivers had to weave through rerouted lanes, concrete barriers and other problems.

There were multiple accidents in December and January.

We wondered if there was any reason to fear a winter encore this year. Work on the project is ongoing, but ODOT spokesperson Amanda McFarland pledges that work will be concluded for the winter, before Thanksgiving.

She also says, last winter was a teachable moment for ODOT. It is making sure other construction projects do not overlap into the worst of winter weather.

That means work on the I-77 project near the I-480 bridge has already wrapped up. The highway just reopened in the last week to normal traffic flow.
