The Akron City Council honored Amber Vinson, the nurse who contracted Ebola while treating a patient in Dallas, at its board meeting on Monday.

In a resolution unanimously passed Monday evening, the board commended “Amber Joy Vinson for her extraordinary professionalism and courage, wishing her well in her ongoing recovery; and declaring an emergency.”

Vinson, 29, contracted the virus while providing treatment for Ebola patient Thomas Duncan at Texas Presbyterian Hospital.

Duncan later died from the virus.

Vinson then traveled from Dallas to Cleveland on Frontier Airlines flight 1142 on Oct. 10 and remained in Northeast Ohio until she returned to Texas on flight 1143 on October 13.

She tested positive at the hospital where she works on Oct. 14.
