Greater Cleveland is facing an overflow of homeless families, men and women this coming winter.
The overflow is forcing Metropolitan Lutheran Ministries to bus more homeless people to temporary shelters than ever before.
The Men’s Shelter at 2100 Lakeside, and the Salvation Army’s Zelma George Family Shelter are packed to capacity every night.
The shuttle bus is now transporting 50 to 100 homeless people every night.
Rodney Scott and his family have used the shuttle to get to temporary shelters, but the father of two daughters explained it’s not easy to move everything you own multiple times every month.
“The shuttle bus is important now that there are simply not enough beds to accommodate the growing number of homeless people here in our area,” said Scott. “But it’s hard, you got to drag it everywhere you go. You can’t leave anything behind. You got to take everything with you, all your belongings.”
